Mary L. Smith, PhD.
I’m a scientist, a storyteller, a wife, a mother, and a woman of faith. Some days those roles fit together beautifully. Other days, I’m simply figuring out how to make room for them all.
Dr.Mrs.Mom is where those parts of my life meet—and where I hope you’ll find a little curiosity, encouragement, and possibility of your own.
HOW THIS BEGAN
A different way to tell a story.
Much of my professional life has been spent helping people make sense of complicated science. I’ve worked with dense research, unfamiliar medical language, and important information that deserves to be understood—not just by experts, but by the people whose lives it touches.
Along the way, I began thinking about what it might look like to bring that same care for clear communication into something more imaginative. I wanted to create outside the familiar rhythm of my everyday work, without leaving behind the knowledge and experience that shaped me.
That curiosity eventually became ABCs of Oncology—a children’s book that introduces complex language through an approachable, alphabet-inspired journey.

THE PROFESSIONAL FOUNDATION
Science is part of my story, not the whole story.
I am a scientific communications professional with experience developing medical and scientific education across complex therapeutic areas, including oncology. My work has centered on translating evidence into clear, purposeful communication for healthcare audiences.
That foundation informs the educational resources I create, but Dr.Mrs.Mom is also a place for the personal perspectives, creative ideas, and lived experiences that don’t always fit into a professional biography.
